Before I came across your website I purchased a bottle of Now brand Kelp, 150mcg.( Laminaria digitata & Ascophyllum nodosum) Directions say to take one per day with meals. There are 500 in the bottle. After reading your site, this seems like a low dose, and was wondering how to proceed.
Should I take more than one per day, or purchase one of the products you recommend?
This bottle didn't cost that much, so I am open to suggestions.
ANSWER
The decision to take the kelp is up to you.
But, if you believe you have an iodine deficiency, it may be necessary for you to take a larger amount of iodine. Dr. Brownstein recommends either supplementation with the liquid Lugol's iodine from 25 - 50 mg. a day or Iodoral, the pill equivalent.
I faithfully take 4 Iodoral pills a day to correct my deficiency. This totals 50 mg. Each pill contains 5 mg. of iodine and 7.5 iodide (potassium salt).
These products may be found in the Store on this site.
Whatever you decide, build up your iodine slowly so you don't overtax your body or you may experience detoxification symptoms.
Good luck. Let me know how this works for you.
